Celebrities Attend Bojanala Film Festival

My Bojanala Film Week experience began as such…

I got to Joburg, after many hassles and stresses only to find out that I’d be the only media travelling with 9 of the top actors in S.A, making an appearance at the opening of the film week…

Now, by top actors I mean, Jafta Mamabolo (Generations – Matthew), veterans Peter Mashigo (Ga Re Dumele – Pastor), Jabu Nkosi (Chirwali – Emzini We Zinsizwa), Jerry Phele (Mofokeng – Emzini We Zinsizwa), Mfana Jones Hlophe, and Peter Moruakgomo (Ace – Generations), Samukelo Ndlovu (Dj Lulu – Generations) , Kagiso Rakosa (Sharon – Generations), as well Rantebeng Makapan (Thomas Mashaba – Generations) who also did a stunning job as the M.C of the festivities that kick started the film week.

He’s a quick run down of what happened…

Kea Malao, Film Week Director, acknowledged and thanked various stake holders, coming from Bojanala Platinum District’s arts and culture portfolio, he shared a bit on his involvement with the project, preparations and time spent on putting it all together.

We then got treated to the dramatic yet comic hand over to Rantebeng, when actors Jerry Phele and Jabu Nkosi took centre stage with a stunning improv piece, derived from their famous characters from Emzini We Zinsizwa, Mofokeng and Chirwali respectively.

Rantebeng also introduced the celebrities we travelled with, each coming forth to greet everyone to say a word or two to the attendees of the event.

Jafta said something that grabbed my attention – parents should let their kids take part in activities taking place over this week, because just like other professions, film can also be turned into a career.

Peter Moruakgomo also touched on that, coming from Rustenburg himself he mentioned the importance of nurturing local talent and supporting local products in the end.

Retribution was also screened, captivating film. A Psychological thriller which had me thinking of the intensity of one’s psyche especially when dealing with trauma (topic for another day) but nonetheless one of the most interesting productions from S.A.

My final thoughts on the film week?

Would I be here if it was anything BUT absolutely incredible?
